Thomas Restaurant, Pryor, was a landmark stop along the well traveled Interstate 69 highway in neighboring Mayes County for more than half a century.

Now it is gone.

Onlookers stared in disbelief Thursday afternoon as the popular gathering spot for both daily and Sunday diners burned to the ground. Family members, employees and friends gather around owner, Darrell Anderson, while he watched and waited.

Employees stated the fire started while preparing a meal for the Pryor All-Sports banquet. Once the fire became out of control, customers and employees evacuated the building.

Pryor Fire Department responded to the call around 2:42 p.m. and were on site until 4 a.m. Friday morning. Firefighters attempt to put out the blaze before the roof collapsed.

Salina, Pryor, Locust Grove, Osage, Adair and Chouteau Fire Departments assisted the Pryor Police Department, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, MESTA, Mayes County Sheriff’s office and Pryor street department and MUB employees.
