Owasso couple Ken and Melanie Hasty-Grant are no strangers when it comes to offering people financial guidance.

As owners of Waterstone Private Wealth Management, the husband and wife team regularly counsels their clients on how to develop financial strategies with their money, in matters concerning retirement, insurance, and alternative investments, to name a few.

But lately, the wealth management experts have been giving their advice to people on a much bigger scale — CNBC big, in fact.

“Several weeks ago, we got a call from a producer at CNBC, and he was interested in including us in a live segment about paying off your mortgage versus buying equities,” said Melanie, founder and managing principal of Waterstone. “So, we went to Tulsa and did the spot by satellite, enjoying it, but thinking that would be the only time we would be asked to do so.

“A few weeks later, we got another call — this time from FOX Business News, and asked us if we could come to New York and be part of a segment on the economy,” she said. “Specifically, they were wanting a Midwestern point of view — if you watch their broadcasts, you’ll see that many of their shows feature guests from one of the coasts, so they felt we were a good representation of ‘Middle America’.

“Plus, I think they appreciated the fact that Ken and I are married and work together in wealth management,” she said.

Once in New York, the couple again offered their financial insight, this time on the economy and general market topics —  Mark even spending two hours seated next to the anchor of the news program.

“We were only there for a few days — it was pretty much just a ‘business trip’ — but while we were there, we were contacted by a reporter from the Associated Press who wanted to chat with us for a story about the (stock) market tone for the new year,” she said. “He chatted with us for about 45 minutes or so and after the story went out, it was picked up by the Washington Post and the New York Times, among others.”

While the Grants are accustomed to offering their expertise on financial management strategies in Oklahoma, Melanie said she welcomed the chance to do so on a national scale.

“We’d been to New York before — to visit the exchange of course and to go to the usual sight-seeing spots — but we were both honored to have been asked to share out perspectives with a national audience,” she said.

Since their national exposure, the Grants have gotten feedback from their local clients, offering congratulations and words of support, with expressions of increased confidence in the Grant’s financial advisement prowess.

“Everyone’s been very complimentary of our appearances on television and the articles by the AP,” she said, “and we’re not through yet — we’ve already been asked to go back to New York in March and do more live feeds for three days, for both CNBC and FOX Business News.”

Waterstone Private Wealth Management’s offices are based at 9500 North 129th East Avenue in Owasso.
