Claremore First United Methodist Church is, for the ninth consecutive year, coordinating a program to provide free school supplies for children whose parents or guardians are having financial difficulties and are unable to purchase the supplies.

The school supplies will be available to children attending all Rogers County Public Schools. Parents or guardians must come to the church, 1615 N. Highway 88 to apply for the needed supplies.

Sign ups will begin Monday, Aug. 7 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and continue at those times every weekday through Thursday, Aug. 17.

During the past eight years, nearly 7,900 needy children have received their supplies at a total cost of $131,000. In addition to First United Methodist Church, funding has come from the contributions of other churches and the Claremore Area Ministerial Alliance, area businesses, civic groups and individuals.

Contributions are needed and may be mailed or delivered to the church. Checks should be made payable to FUMC with “school supplies” on the memo line.
