The list of contributors to this year’s Share the Spirit fundraising campaign is growing longer by the day.

That’s good news for people like Janice (not her real name).

Life has taken some twists and turns for Janice and her two teenage daughters.

The father of the girls is incarcerated, but Janice has never given up hope that she could find a way to make a better life for herself and her family.

Against the odds, Janice believes her life is finally getting on track. She now drives a school bus and is pursuing a college education.

She understands it is a sacrifice (working part time and going to school), but Janice hopes her daughters will learn from her example that “it is never too late to change your


Janice said she is very thankful for the assistance she receives through the Department of Human Services.

Janice and families like hers

are part of the Claremore and greater Rogers County community. Contributions to Share the Spirit’s annual campaign to raise funds for Christmas food baskets can make a difference for Janice and others.

Tax-deductible donations can be made to Share the Spirit, P.O. Box 248, Claremore, OK 74018, or left at the Claremore Progress business office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

This year’s financial goal is $19,000. To date $6,655 have been raised.

In addition to cash donations, non perishable foods and canned goods can be dropped at several locations around the city: City Hall reception area, City Police Department, The Daily Progress office, Will Rogers Library, Community Center, Recreation Center and the City Warehouse.

Food baskets are distributed throughout the city and the greater Rogers County area.
