Oklahoma District 2 Senator Marty Quinn announced he is running for Oklahoma’s Second Congressional District.
The Claremore Republican made the announcement while at Claremore Day at the Capitol Wednesday.
Markwayne Mullin holds the position but announced he is running for the Jim Inhofe’s United States Senate seat.
Quinn has served 12 years at the Oklahoma Capitol. He served in the House of Representatives from 2012-2014 and the Oklahoma Senate since 2014. Quinn terms out this year.
Quinn said he wasn’t looking, but the opportunity presented itself.
“We all make plans, and they can change,” he said.
Quinn said the door of opportunity and responsibility opened last Thursday.
“I felt like I needed to represent one of the greatest communities and best states,” he said. “We decided to walk through the door.”
Quinn said he will focus on infrastructure, energy and proper use of economic resources.
“Between the Port of Catoosa, Mid-America Industrial Park in Pryor – there’s outstanding results ahead,” he said.
Quinn said he wants to be sure that tax dollars sent to the federal government come back to the state of Oklahoma.
