Claremore Police are investigating after a safe was stolen from Cedar Point Church overnight.

Cedar Point Executive Pastor Ron Acree said the safe contained all the Sunday check and cash offerings given by churchgoers.

The church recommends that anyone who wrote a check contact their bank for advice.

“A lot of our giving happens through applications nowadays, so it wasn’t everything that we received on Sunday,” Acree said. “Probably half of our weekly giving is through online applications.”

Claremore Police Department's Officer Brian Barnett said "We know the theft happened at some point between Sunday at 1 p.m. and Monday at 9:30 a.m. The safe was also somewhat heavy, so it may have taken more than one person to carry it."

He said the dollar amount taken is not being released at this time.

Barnett said there were no signs of forced entry that investigators could see.

"This is an ongoing investigation," he said. "Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Claremore PD."

Moving forward the church intends to keep their new safe in a more secure location.

“We just never imagined someone taking the whole safe from the church,” Acree said.

Acree said the loss won’t slow down the church’s commitment to provide generously for those in need or invite strangers to share in fellowship.

“We wish they would have just come and asked for some money if they really needed it that badly,” Acree said. “If they would have asked we probably would have just given it to them.”
