Once again, Claremore police officers have helped make scouts the safest things on two wheels.

For the fourth year in a row, officers with Claremore Police Department set aside some time to hold a bicycle safety course for the scouts of Pack 141.

Officers Eli Vang and Ricky Propst led the charge.

Scouts, and their parents, were instructed on city ordinances as well as bike safety and scouts were even challenged to complete a number of technical skill drills during the course.

Vang and Propst checked each bike for proper breaks, tire pressure and overall safety and soundness.

“It’s always important to educate the scouts, as well as the parents, on city ordinances and safety,” said scout leader Terry Hancock. “It’s a mistake to assume that everyone knows the law and safety requirements.”

Claremore’s Police Chief Stan Brown added, “Officers Ricky Propst and Eli Vang engaged some of our younger citizens yesterday at a bicycle safety fair. We are proud of these young citizens and their accomplishments, we know they gained skill and confidence in their riding abilities. We are equally proud of our officers in their efforts to promote the department’ mission to promote safety, security, and an improved quality of life for our city.”
