Shoppers have the opportunity to make a big impact by shopping small this weekend.
For the second year, Claremore Main Street is hosting a Small Business Saturday event.
Shoppers can start their day with free breakfast at SheBrews downtown beginning at 9 a.m., where the first 200 guests will receive a free canvas bag with store coupons and deals for the day.
Most downtown businesses will be opening their doors early to greet the eager shoppers.
Ethan Groff, vice president of the Claremore Main Street board, said last year was the inaugural event and they know this year will be even better.
"We're encouraging everyone to shop locally and spend their money here in Claremore, so that it can benefit Claremore," Groff said. "We were happy with the turnout but definitely want to see larger numbers this year.
Groff added, "There be lots of sales and specials running, so check with your favorite merchant to see what they're offering."
Small Business Saturday was created by American Express in 2010. It was created to be a day between Black Friday and Cyber Monday to promote small, locally-owned businesses.
And, as if the deals weren't enough to draw downtown shoppers, Santa Claus will be in town. From 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., Santa will be available for free photos at North Block Common (115 N. Missouri Ave) courtesy of Grant Gingerich State Farm.
"Small Business Saturday is almost here! It's the time of the year to show love to our local, small businesses while doing some much needed Christmas and holiday shopping. Always the day after Black Friday, Small Business Saturday is a chance for great deals in a celebration of our neighbors," said Claremore Main Street Executive Director Jessica Jackson. "It's the annual holiday shopping tradition that gets communities everywhere out in support of their favorite small businesses. Because when they thrive, we all thrive."
