Approximately three and a half miles of Highway 20, just outside the city limits of Claremore toward Owasso, will see a change in speed limit.
Beginning 1.65 miles west of Lone Elm Road, the speed limit will slowly reduce from 55 mph to 40 mph east of Clubhouse Road.
Claremore Police Chief Stan Brown said that both his department and the Sheriff’s department have had numerous complaints about the Lone Elm Road and Highway 20 intersection.
“We’ve had complaints from bus drivers about children being in danger when they stop the bus to load off,” Brown said. “When we talked to the other law enforcement agencies, the Roger’s County Sheriff’s Office and OHP, there is really no place in there to do enforcement because there are no shoulders to even stop a vehicle on.”
The change will take effect pending further approval from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.
