Community leaders and elected officials share their thoughts on the passing of Tulsa Police Sgt. Craig Johnson.
Governor Kevin Stitt released the following statement regarding the passing of Tulsa Police Sgt. Craig Johnson after he was shot during a traffic stop Monday morning.
“My heart breaks for the family of Sergeant Craig Johnson and his fellow officers with the Tulsa Police Department. I ask Oklahomans to join the First Lady and me in continuing to pray for his family as well as for his fellow officers.
My hope is that Sgt. Johnson is forever remembered for the heroism, courage and bravery he displayed while protecting Tulsa for 15 years.
We will also continue to pray for a full recovery for Officer Aurash Zarkeshan, who was injured in the same senseless act of violence.
Our law enforcement officers need the support of their community now more than ever, and I encourage Oklahomans to find ways to show their support for those who keep them protected.”
Congressman Markwayne Mullin (OK-02) released the following statement after the passing of Tulsa Police Sgt. Craig Johnson who was shot multiple times during a traffic stop Monday morning. Tulsa Police Officer Aurash Zarkeshan, who was also shot numerous times, is in critical condition.
“Just as we are responsible for what we say, the media is also responsible for what they say. With the national media painting law enforcement as our enemy, I truly believe the blood of the two officers shot in cold blood in Tulsa is partially on their hands,” Mullin said. “Christie and I are praying for Sgt. Johnson’s family during this horrible time. We are also praying for a full recovery for Officer Zarkeshan.”
Representative Kevin Hern (OK-01) released the following statement after being notified of the death of Tulsa Police Sergeant Craig Johnson.
“I am devastated by the passing of Sgt. Johnson,” said Rep. Hern. “I am praying for the Johnson family as they suffer this horrendous tragedy and ask my fellow Oklahomans to lift them up in prayer with me. I wish them peace and swift justice moving forward as they mourn their fallen hero. I also share my sincere condolences with the Tulsa Police Department and with all the brave men and women of law enforcement, who protect and serve us every day, as they lose this brother. We pray for the quick recovery of Tulsa Police Officer Aurash Zarkeshan, who is another victim of this incident, currently in critical condition. These two public servants were viciously attacked by an individual who was quickly found and arrested. He will see his day in court, and I hope to see that justice is served. There is no doubt that the anti-police rhetoric sweeping across our nation right now has contributed to violent crimes like this. The vile rhetoric towards police needs to come to a stop as our law enforcement community needs our support now more than ever”.
Rep. Hern continued, “I am so grateful for the ultimate sacrifice Sgt. Johnson made to protect my community from the dangers that our society regrettably suffers from. His sacrifice and the sacrifices of his family will not be forgotten. I and countless Oklahomans will remember him as the hero he was and honor him as he has fulfilled his oath to protect and serve to the fullest. May he rest in peace as his watch has now ended”.
Senator James Lankford (R-OK) today issued a statement on the passing of Tulsa Police Sergeant Craig Johnson, who was shot in the line of duty:
“Cindy and I are praying for the family of Sgt. Johnson and the entire Tulsa community as we grieve the loss of one of our own. The news is heartbreaking to the entire nation. We pray his family knows that Oklahomans everywhere mourn with them and pray for them today. Now is a time to band together in support of the police officers who serve with honor and are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to protect everyone in our communities.”
