Nearly 30 mile-per-hour winds damaged the West Bend Winterland Christmas Tree at the Claremore Expo Center Tuesday night, city crews reported.
During transport from Michigan, the top 15 feet of the 65-foot spruce was chopped off and reattached with a metal rod when the tree arrived in Claremore.
Tuesday night winds and the weight of the tree forced the rod to bend.
City crews spent two hours Wednesday morning making repairs.
Due to the structural integrity of the top portion of the tree, and the promise of more bad weather, the city has opted not to reinstall the star at the top of the tree this year.
