Renetta Harrison, Rogers County Health Department Health Educator , discusses the impact the winter weather had on COVID-19 vaccine distribution.
1. How did the weather impact the vaccination distribution?
The weather certainly created an issue with our planned COVID-19 vaccination clinics or PODs (points of distribution). We want to make sure our clinics are safe for the clients coming to be vaccinated and our workers. Therefore, all have been rescheduled and all clients have been notified.
2. What is the plan to catch up/reschedule any cancelled vaccinations?
We will be doing all we are able to accommodate everyone who had appointments scheduled and working diligently to catch up and continue to vaccinate our community.
3. What do you wish the general public knew about the vaccination distribution?
Vaccine is being distributed to us and none is being wasted. Several pharmacies (Walmart, Sam's Club, Walgreens) have joined in our efforts and more providers will begin administering vaccine in the near future. Please be patient and utilize the portal or any other means the pharmacies or providers require. Also, for updates please follow Rogers County Health Department Facebook page.
4. How has the overall vaccination process been so far?
The process is organized and smooth, but not without small glitches as in any other new process. We are constantly updating plans and processes to improve and will continue. We have received many positive responses from the community at our vaccination PODs.
5. What should people know about scheduling a vaccine through the portal?
Everyone wanting to utilize our County Health Departments will need to register at vaccinate.ok.gov. Please carefully read and answer all the questions asked as you will not be able to go back and change anything. They will receive an email when they are eligible and it will have a link to the scheduling portal. Be patient as this is a statewide vaccination effort, therefore all residents of Oklahoma who are eligible will be using the same portal to book appointments and it may take several tries. Please do not call your county health department with portal questions as they do not have any control. If you have technical difficulties using the portal or do not have access to the internet call 2-1-1 for assistance.
