Dear Editor:

Oowala Home and Community Education Group has been an active participant in the OHCE statewide "Just Let Them Know We Care" military/family support project since 2008. The main objective of this project is to support our military troops by sending care packages, cards, letters, emails in order to have personal contact with troops serving overseas.

Our local group members have provided items for these care packages as well as donating cash to provide specialty items from time to time. For several years two of our ladies have sent special boxes of goodies before Christmas, so the soldiers we support may share a special Christmas Day celebration with their fellow troop members.

Every month each soldier we adopt will receive items ranging from personal toiletry items, reading material, puzzles, games and lots of snacks. We sometimes get special requests such as laundry soap, doggie treats for bomb sniffing dogs from a K-9 unit to clothing and school supplies for local children in orphanages. It is always our pleasure to fill a request as long as it will fit into one of the USPS shipping boxes required.

Since our group began participating in this project we have sent a total of 434 care packages overseas. Oowala OHCE group has been able to send all these boxes because of the generosity of BAKER HUGHES Centrilift in Claremore, OK, who pays the postage on these boxes to our troops. We are able to send many more care packages, because they are picking up the postage. All of us in Oowala OHCE Group appreciate and applaud Baker Hughes Centrilift's part in supporting the United States troops all around the world.
