Perhaps you’ve heard viewpoints expressed by those who want your attention or want to influence your thinking. Have you noticed a lot of this going on recently? Perhaps you’ve given thought to how valid the influencer’s viewpoint is? Let’s say you construct a scale of 1 to 10 for purposes of how much you believe what an influencer is saying and a 1 to 10 scale on the importance of the consequences of acting on the influencer’s thinking.

Here’s 2 extreme examples a) you are considering buying whole grain vs multi-grain bread you so you score it 1 because you are willing to take another’s belief and 1 because if you are wrong you see minimal consequences (or 1/1) and, b) sending your kid on a packed school bus that uses a bridge designed by people who were trained to build bridges and had successfully built many bridges vs a bridge newly built by a company awarded the contract with no trained employees who had not built a bridge and you score that a 10 because an influencer gave you valid sourced evidence & a 10 because you don’t want to lose your child (10/10).

Most actions you take are more then 1/1 and less then 10/10. However, in today’s world of too many influencers baiting you for your attention and too many people allowing their attention to be hijacked, so many fall-under-the-influence of non-sourced evidence and pay little attention to consequences. Unfortunately the strategy of repeated messaging by well developed & well paid personalities and mis-represented evidence wins loyal believers. History shows us many of these loyal believers are willing to give their lives to these well constructed fabricated stories.

The evil plan that took down the twin towers in New York City and the building in Oklahoma City are just 2 dramatic examples where people let themselves be led into a non-evidence based emotion charged conquest resulting in needless innocent deaths that still haunt us.

We find ourselves now in a strange situation where one could consider themselves as the characters in a well written triller best selling novel. Perhaps it’s time for you to carefully and mindfully tamp-down the emotion and light up the evidence based information available to us. Perhaps it’s time to tell your well-intentioned-friends to spend their valuable time digging into the writings of those who are trained in these issues instead of the well-paid-influencers who may not have your best interest in mind. Instead of using your energy to be angry or hurtful, you might consider using your energy to get educated by real authoritative sources who are carefully studying how to prevent and help reduce the injury to your health and the health of your loved ones. Sure these authorities will sound inconclusive and sometimes contradictory as they try to help us figure out what works and what doesn’t.

They are not perfect but they are trying with the best possible resources they have available to them. Sure we are all going to die, but do you want your ill-informed-emotion-driven actions to shorten the life of an innocent someone else or take away their quality of life?
