As a staff, we could not be happier with the community reaction to our FreePeriod. project so far.
When we first embarked on this community project, we weren’t sure what the reaction would be–it’s not every day you see a newspaper seeking donations of feminine hygiene products. But Progress readers have embraced the cause.
“Thank you for continuing to be fearless in the variety and intensity of subjects you cover...I will be dropping off some feminine hygiene supplies tomorrow,” one of our readers shared with us.
We think being a middle school-aged girl is stressful. So, we started project FreePeriod. collecting donations of small, discreet makeup bags and feminine hygiene products to deliver to area middle schools. We want to give pre-teen girls one less thing to worry about.
Turns out, it’s a cause our readers can get behind, too.
From your comments, emails, and phone calls, we’ve seen your support.
In addition to the words of encouragement, we’ve also seen donations pouring in already.
We want to say thank you to our readers, our community, for helping us start this project on the right foot.
Anyone interested in donating bags or supplies can drop them off at the Progress office (305 W. Will Rogers Blvd.)
