LAREDO, Texas – Katelyn Alexander garnered Heartland Conference Freshman of the Year honors and the Rogers State women's cross country team took seventh out of eight teams at the Heartland Conference Championship on Saturday morning (Nov. 3).
Alexander, a freshman from Claremore, Okla., placed 11th and was the top freshman in the field to earn Heartland Conference Freshman of the Year honors. She covered the 6-kilometer course in 22:40.4 for all-league recognition.
Sophomore Elizabeth Reidlinger finished in the second spot for RSU and 36th overall in 24:18.0. Junior Ellen Thomas was three seconds behind Reidlinger in 24:21.4 for 40th overall in the field.
Senior Mia Chavez crossed the finish line in 24:55.0 for the fourth spot in the team standings and 48th overall.
Freshman Noel Lawver earned the final scoring spot for the Hillcats in a time of 25:17.0 for 55th overall and fifth for RSU.
Sophomore Avery Buck took the sixth spot for the navy and red as she ran a time of 25:32.9 to finish 61st overall.
Tayler Lee put together a time of 25:53.0 in the race for seventh for the team and 64th overall. Freshman Jaeden Coon was three seconds behind in 25:56.7 for 65th in the field.
Freshman Jayla Kosmatin ran a time of 26:36.9 for 70th overall, and senior Brianna Valles timed 26:44.3 for 71st overall.
Dallas Baptist University won the league championship with 26 points and placed four runners in the top five. Lubbock Christian's Amira Cunningham was the individual champion in 21:46.1.
The Hillcats now prepare for the NCAA South Central Regional set for Nov. 17 in Denver, Colo.
