GREENSBORO, N.C. — Anthony Sequeira and Matt Whatley have been named to the 2015 American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings Mideast Region Teams announced the organization Wednesday. Sequeira earned Midwest Region first-team accolades while Whatley picked up second-team honors.
All-Region first-team selections are eligible for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. ABCA/Rawlings All-Americans will be announced on Saturday, June 13, and the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove team will be announced on Sunday, June 14.
Sequeira, a Petaluma, Calif. native, put together a monster senior season on his way to The Summit League Player of the Year honors while also picking up All-League first team honors as a utility player and relief pitcher. He led ORU with a .583 slugging percentage while also posting a .423 on base percentage while belting a team high 11 home runs and driving in 58 runs.
Whatley, a freshman, led ORU in hitting with a .355 average on his way to earning Freshman All-American recognition, Summit League Newcomer of the Year honors and First Team All-Summit League accolades at catcher. His 44 RBI were second most among the Golden Eagles and finished the season with a .528 slugging percentage and .437 on base percentage. He had a team high 56 runs scored which also ranked in the top 50 nationally adding, three triples and 16 stolen bases.
Both Sequeira and Whatley were named to the Stillwater Regional All-Tournament team after their performances in the NCAA tournament.
The ABCA All-Region teams were voted on by all coaches in the respective region.
