SEQUOYAH — Sequoyah experienced a mixed bag of results in a Battle of the Eagles.
The Lady Eagles put up an impressive fight No. 9 Morris in the Class 3A Area IV District 8 championship Monday at Olan Graham Field House, but they fell just short in a 50-48 loss. The boys followed with a 46-37 victory over Morris in the nightcap.
Kyra Crenshaw led the girls with 15 points and two rebounds, and Kennedy Cloud reached double figures as well with 11 points and three rebounds. Hailey McClure grabbed a team-high seven rebounds to go along with two points.
Charie Barnett (18 points, six rebounds), Maddie Moore (12 points, six rebounds) and Kaleah Barnett (eight points, eight rebounds) had standout performances for Morris.
On the boys side, Cooper Thompson paced Sequoyah with 13 points and three rebounds, and Braxton Bulman registered 10 points and four rebounds. Eli Wood managed six points and seven rebounds.
Tucker Kelsey was the only Morris player to score in double figures with 11 points and one rebound, but Giorgio Dunn came close with nine points while Jaxsun Fulton pitched in seven points and 10 rebounds.
