Blomander leads men’s golf in Hilton Head after day one

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Rogers State Men's Golf team sits in eighth place after day one of the Battle at Hilton Head Island Tournament hosted at the Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort - Arthur Hills Course.

The Hillcats shot +20 as a team after shooting a score of 308 in round one to sit in the middle of the 13-team field.

Edwin Blomander led the Hillcats in round one, shooting a 2-over-par round of 74, ending the day in a tie for 12th place individually. Blomander started on hole 13 and after consecutive pars to start his round, recorded bogeys on two of the next three holes.

However, Blomander would par the next two holes before recording a birdie on the par-4 2nd. Blomander would then bogey the next to holes but would close the front nine with a par and then birdies on either side of a bogey to shoot even on the front nine. Overall, he would shoot par over his final four holes.

Ewen Delample would finish second for the Hillcats after round one, sitting in a tie for 32nd. Delample struggled early, recording a double bogey on his opening hole followed by bogeys on the next two holes. After a pair of pars, Delample would bogey the seventeenth before recording a birdie at the turn. Delample would then run four consecutive pars before one final bogey. Sitting at +5, Delample would par the final six holes to close his round.

One shot behind Delample was Logan Meehan, who finished with a +6 round of 78 to sit in a tie for 43rd in the 74-player field. Meehan would lead the Hillcats with 13 pars in his round, but had four bogeys and had a double bogey to close the front nine.

Gonzalo Chaves rounded out the scoring for the Hillcats with a +7 round of 79 to sit in a tie for 51st. Chaves recorded double bogeys to start and finish his round but shot just +3 over the other 16 holes. Chaves would record birdies at the turns on 18 and on nine to get back to +3, but would shoot +4 over the final three holes.

Jacob Baird shot +11 in his opening round to wrap up the day for the Hillcats. After going bogey, birdie, bogey to start his day, Baird would shoot a triple that started a tough eight-hole stretch where he went +9. Baird would settle in with a par at the par-4 7th and finished his final seven holes with six pars and a bogey.

Rogers State is 18 shots behind leaders Florida Tech, but 11 strokes behind Barton, King and Southern Wesleyan in third.

Blomander and Delample will tee off on hole eight to begin their rounds on Tuesday. Meehan will tee off on nine and Chaves and Baird will tee off on 10. Tee time is set for 9:00 a.m.
