The honors keep coming for Morgan Borgstadt.

The Verdigris Valley Conference announced its 2022-23 basketball awards, and the senior was voted the North Division MVP while her coach Mike Buntin was named the North Division Coach of the Year. Under Buntin’s tutelage, Borgstadt — a University of Tennessee at Martin signee — led the Lady Cardinals to a 22-7 record and the program’s first state tournament win since 2006.

Borgstadt finished her career the third highest-scoring player in school history at 1,513 points while also coming in at fourth all-time in rebounds with 609 and second all-time in assists with 273. She sits behind only Baleigh O’Dell (2010-14) and Cassie Clarke (2005-08) in scoring; Julia Mitchell (2005-08), Clarke and Courtney Risenhoover (2012-15) in rebounds and O’Dell in assists.

The Oklahoma Girls Basketball Coaches Association workouts will be held next week, and Borgstadt is expected to be selected to the All-State team.

Brynlee Brown and Maddy Daniels also represented Verdigris as second-team all-conference selections, and Kate Wiginton, Ciara Daniel, Emma Young and Adalyn Waters made the honorable-mentions list.

Other players from Rogers County earned honors as well, with Alexis Martin of Oologah leading the way as a first-team all-conference member. Her teammate Kailee Seaba made the third team, as did Zoe Brown of Catoosa while the Lady Mustangs’ Kobie Brader and Kalley Hogue and the Lady Indians’ Tinsley Mitchell were honorable mentions.

On the boys side, Titus Miller of Catoosa was named the South Division MVP after pacing the Indians to a 20-7 record and an appearance in the area tournament.

Catoosa’s Greyson Lewallen and Tyler Willis of Verdigris highlighted the all-conference first team, and Eli Despain of Oologah and the Indians’ Chris Brown were named to the second team.

Elsewhere, the Cardinals’ Brant Teague and the Mustangs’ Braden Marshall made the third team.
