COVID-19 has officially thwarted the plans, albeit temporarily, for one Rogers County football team.
Verdigris’ nondistrict game at Miami has been moved from 7 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday because of COVID-19 issues, Miami News-Record sports editor Jim Ellis reported.
According to Miami athletic director Chad Davis, the Wardogs have several players in a quarantine that expires Friday. Pushing the game to Saturday allows those athletes to compete.
Four players missed Miami’s 14-6 loss to Jay last week for similar reasons. Some of those currently quarantined are reportedly starters for the Wardogs.
Miami, which enters the game 0-2, will honor its seniors beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Red Robertson Field.
Verdigris is coming off a 45-6 thumping of Class 2A No. 4 Sperry and hasn’t reported any problems with a COVID-19 outbreak.
