MUSKOGEE — The Claremore girls cross country team claimed five of the top six spots at the Bacone College Cross Country Invitational Friday, and literally ran away with the varsity championship.

The Zebras finished second behind Coweta in the boys varsity race.

The Lady Zebras, led by defending state champion Laynie Nichols who finished first in 18:37, scored 19 points for the win.

Katelyn Alexander finished third in 19:13, Kassidy Hannah was fourth in 20:25, Erin Kuykendall was fifth in 20:28 and Gloria Butts finished sixth in 21:11. Lauren Kuykendall was ninth in 21:40 and Bailey Pritchett was 14th in 22:21.

The Claremore boys were led by Andrew Vanaman in fourth place with a time of 16:41. Johnson Long finished 14th in 17:56, followed by Ethan Stevenson in 16th (18:00), Blaine Phillippi in 21st (18:20), Bobby Case in 22nd (18:20), Alex Wiseman in 25th (18:31) and Blake Phillippi in 28th (18:42).

The Will Rogers Junior High teams also competed at Bacone. The Claremore girls finished ninth, while the boys finished fifth, led by Kort Seidel’s third place finish.
