WACO, Texas – The Rogers State women's soccer team totaled five All-Heartland Conference selections as announced by the league on Wednesday (Oct. 31). Taylor Sargent, Eva Madarang, Melissa Cardenas, Bria Salazar and Hannah Mushisky were named All-Heartland Second Team.

Cardenas, a senior captain from Oxnard, Calif., was named all-league as a defender for the second straight season. In her senior campaign, Cardenas started in 16 games on defense and totaled 1,372 minutes. A two-year starter on the backline, she registered two goals and two assists in her senior season, including the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in a 3-0 victory over Oklahoma Christian. She helped the defense post nine shuts this season at center back. For her two-year career at RSU, Cardenas made 36 starts with three goals and eight assists. She was named All-Heartland Conference Second Team twice and All-South Central Region by the United Soccer Coaches as a junior.

Madarang, a senior from Thousand Oaks, Calif., earned All-Heartland honors as a midfielder. Madarang started 18 games this season and played the most minutes of any field player with 1,513 minutes. She tallied three goals and one assist during her senior year, including two game-winning goals. The senior opened the 2018 season with goals in back-to-back games in wins over Northwestern Oklahoma State and Rockhurst. In her two-year career at RSU, Madrang started in 32 games and totaled three goals and five assists.

Sargent, a senior from The Colony, Texas, was selected All-Heartland Conference for the third time, including twice this season after being a preseason all-league pick. In her senior season, Sargent started in all 18 games with nine shutouts. She played the most minutes of any Hillcat in 2018 with 1,669 minutes played. The senior totaled 73 saves for an 82.0 save percentage. Sargent allowed only 16 goals in the 18 games for a 0.86 goals against average. She was named the Heartland Conference Defensive Player of the Week four times this season, including three straight weeks early in the 2018 campaign. For her two-year career, Sargent started in all 38 games and played 3,534 minutes. She totaled a 0.71 goals against average with 154 saves and an 84.6 save percentage. Sargent went 23-10-5 in goal with 20 shutouts. She is a three-time all-league selection, seven-time player of the week and two-time all-region selection.

Salazar, a sophomore from Glendora, Calif., was named All-Heartland Second Team for the second straight season. Salazar was selected as the Heartland Conference Freshman of the Year in 2017. In her sophomore campaign in 2018, the midfielder started in 17 games with 1,390 minutes played to rank third on the team. As a defensive midfielder, she helped RSU post nine shutouts in 18 games during the season. She tallied one assist on the season in a win over Oklahoma Christian. In her two years in the navy and red, Salazar has started in 29 games and made 35 appearances. She was named All-South Central Region in 2017 along with all-conference and the league freshman of the year.

Mushisky, a sophomore from Arcadia, Calif., earned all-league honors for the second straight season as a forward. She paced the Hillcats with eight goals, ranking fifth in the Heartland Conference. The sophomore posted a team-high three game-winning goals. For her sophomore season, Mushisky made 15 starts and played 1,100 minutes. She led the team with 52 shots and 28 shots on goal. Along with the eight goals, she added one assist for a team-high 17 points. Mushisky totaled a brace in a 3-2 overtime win at Newman, including the game-winning overtime golden goal. In her two seasons, she is a two-time all-league selection and was named all-region in 2017. Mushisky has appeared in 38 games in two seasons with 18 goals and three assists.
