4 Hillcat tracksters selected for NCAA National Championships

INDIANAPOLIS – The Rogers State Men’s Track & Field team earned had four athletes earn selection to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships at the end of May.

Alfred Thomas, who competed at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships and took a sixth overall in the 200-meter dash, qualified for a pair of individual events for the outdoor championships.

Thomas is seeded in 18th in both the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. In the 100, Thomas’ time of 10.38 is less then .1 seconds behind the third fastest seed time of 10.29.

In the 200, Thomas qualified with a 20.96 and is within .2 seconds of the fourth-fastest seed time. Thomas’ personal record of 20.77 in the 200 would be seeded fifth fastest.

Thomas also joins teammates Jacques Morgan, Quintin Powell and D’Jiron Lilley on the 4x100-meter relay team that qualified for the nation championships. The group’s seed time of 40.47 is sixth fastest, but the team has also ran a 40.35, which would be third fastest heading into the championship meet.

The Hillcats will compete in the national championship event from May 23 to May 25. The event will be hosted by Texas A&M-Kingsville at Javelina Stadium.
