The Rogers State men's basketball team rallied from an 11-point first-half deficit to pick up its fourth straight victory with an 81-74 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State on Saturday (Dec. 29) at the Claremore Expo Center.
With the win, the Hillcats (10-3) made it eight wins in their last nine games with two four-game winning streak.
RSU rallied from an early 11-point deficit to earn the 81-74 victory. The Aggies hit six early 3-pointers to build a 28-17 edge with 9:35 before halftime on a Hank Harrel triple.
Trailing 40-30 with 4:50 left before halftime, the navy and red ended the first half on a 14-0 run to take a 44-40 advantage into the break. Latrell Tidwell gave the Hillcats a 41-40 edge on a layup with 1:36 remaining. He was fouled on the made basket and converted the three-point play for a 42-40 score. Tidwell added two more free throws before halftime for the 44-40 margin.
In the second half, the Cats led for the full 20 minutes, but it was close throughout. Holding only a 72-70 edge late, Brewster Peacock made it 75-70 with a corner 3 with 3:29 remaining.
Jordan Johnson put the Aggies away with a layup and a 3-pointer for an 80-72 score with 1:14 remaining.
Four Hillcats finished in double figures. Peacock scored a team-high 17 points and added seven rebounds. Tate Turner posted 15 points. Saint Hilaire (12 points) and Tidwell (11 points) added double digit scoring off the bench as the Cats totaled a 34-3 advantage in bench points. RSU held a 45-27 advantage in rebounding and shot 47.7 percent (31-65) from the field.
OPSU's Breiman Alexander registered a game-high 29 points, hitting seven 3-pointers. The Aggies sank 14 3-pointers and shot 46.7 percent (14-30) from 3. OPSU finished at 45 percent (27-60) from the field in the game.
