Hillcats Finish 3rd, Williams and Whittington Earn All-Heartland

LAREDO, Texas – The Rogers State men's cross country team finished third out of eight teams, and senior Seth Whittington and junior Nick Williams earned All-Heartland Conference First Team honors on Saturday (Nov. 3) at the Heartland Conference Championship.

Williams, a junior Sapulpa, Okla., led the navy and red with a sixth place finish in a time of 25:41.6 in the 8-kilometer race. He garnered all-league honors for the first time in his three-year RSU career.

Whittington, a senior from Kansas, Okla., put together a time of 25:54.3 to be named All-Heartland Conference First Team for the fourth time in his career in the navy and red. The senior placed eighth overall in the field.

Tristan Owens took the third spot for the Cats and placed 20th overall with a time of 26:34.3 in the conference championship race.

Brooks Cataudella posted the fourth place spot for RSU and finished 28th overall. He ran a time of 26:47.2.

In the final scoring spot for the navy and red was freshman Preston Turner. The freshman turned in a time of 27:03.5 for 35th overall.

Senior Cruz Chavez placed 37th in 27:11.8 with Justin Noble in 41st at 27:21.9. Colton Green was 43rd with his time of 27:26.6, and Ty Graham took 45th in a time of 27:35.5.

Dallas Baptist University won the Heartland Conference team championship with 19 points and put seven runners in the top 11. DBU's Andrew Curry (24:55.4) and Stetson Rayas (24:55.5) finished side-by-side in the race for first and second place. Lubbock Christian was second with 82 points.

The Hillcats are back in action at the NCAA South Central Regional in two weeks on Nov. 17 in Denver, Colo.
