The Inola Longhorns are jumbled in that District 3A-4 that has been all the talk.

Since Class 3A moved from eight districts to four, the classification has been concentrated with two teams coming down from 4A (Cascia Hall and Vinita), has two district champions from last year (Berryhill and Jay), and has three Rogers County teams (Inola, Sequoyah and Verdigris) punching it out for one of four playoff spots.

The other team in the district is Locust Grove, which should be improved this season.

Probably the toughest district in 3A, and maybe in the state, Inola has just as good a shot as anybody at making the playoffs.

The Longhorns, after finishing sixth in 3A-7 last year with a 3-7 overall record, will get a test in Zero Week when they host Lincoln Christian.

The Bulldogs are coming off another playoff season last year, finishing 5-7.

The first road trip of the season for the Longhorns is two weeks later on Sept. 7 with a trip to Salina. They host Wyandotte in the final non-district game on Sept. 14.

Districts begin Sept. 21 with a trip to last year's district champ Berryhill, which finished 10-1 and were 6-0 in district play.

Another tough roadie the following week sends the Longhorns to Sequoyah, another playoff team that finished last year 7-4. Coach Matt Hagebusch resigned and now former Claremore High School and Tulsa Rogers coach Rob Gilbreath takes over for the Eagles.

Two home games follow, Oct. 5 vs. Locust Grove and Oct. 12 vs. Verdigris.

Locust Grove finished 5-5 last year and Verdigris was 4-6. Neither team made the state playoffs last season.

The Longhorns play at Jay on Oct. 18, a team that finished 10-2 and District 3A-7 champion last year.

The final two games will be against those 4A teams from last year, vs. Vinita on Oct. 26 and at Cascia Hall on Nov. 2. Vinita was 3-7 and Cascia Hall made the playoffs and finished 6-5.
