Rogers County track and field athletes failed to get a state champion from the 3A-4A State Track and Field Championships at Moore High School over the weekend, but they did get close.

There were several second-place finishers at the event. Taygen Scrivner of Sequoyah placed second in the high jump with a 5-2 jump, and Oologah's Kiah Purdunn, who also cleared 5-2, finished third.

Sequoyah's Mason Hassell was second in the 110 hurdles, but it was no ordinary race. The Eagle hurdler was just two-hundredths of a second from a state championship.

Hassell finished it 15.54, just behind Mason Babcock of Vinita, who crossed the line in 15.52.

Oologah's Ty Dixon was second in the high jump and Kai Faulkner of Catoosa was runner-up in the pole vault. Last year's state long jump champion, Oologah's Chance Walstrom, finished third.

At the Class 2A-A State Track and Field Championships at Western Heights, Foyil's Dessa Pinkston finished fifth in the long jump with a 15-9.5 distance. And Chelsea's Ashley Ellis was sixth in the discus with a throw of 103-01.

Oologah’s girls finished 14th, and Sequoyah was 15th.

Oologah’s boys placed 15th, Sequoyah was 17th, Catoosa was 22nd and Inola finished 26th
