Devin Holmes has become a nearly unstoppable force on the mound for Oologah baseball.
The senior continued his impressive season Monday against Inola, tossing 20 strikeouts while allowing only two hits, one earned run and a walk on 114 pitches through seven innings in a 16-1 victory.
Twenty strikeouts is a huge number, and it is no fluke. Holmes has put up ridiculous stats consistently through his four starts for the 6-6 Mustangs.
Against Grove on Feb. 1, he threw 13 strikeouts while surrendering one hit and four walks. He one-upped that in his next start on March 8 in an 11-1 win over Vinita, striking out 14 while giving up three hits and no walks through six innings.
Holmes took a loss at the hands of Tuttle in a 6-4 decision on March 18, but he managed five strikeouts to two hits and five walks in four innings of action.
In all, the 6-foot-1 pitcher has allowed only one earned run through 23 innings, giving him an ERA on 0.39. That isn’t including his 52 strikeouts.
With Holmes on the mound, Oologah is a formidable threat to all its opponents. Beware, Class 4A.
