Oologah, Sequoyah, Claremore advance

Despite the mostly day-long showers and wet grounds, high school teams launched their soccer playoffs on Tuesday.

Oologah and Claremore each won two matches, advancing boys and girls teams into the quarterfinals.

Boys

District champion Claremore handed Tulsa Rogers a 1-0 loss and Catoosa picked up a 2-1 victory over Miami in Class 5A matches.

In Friday’s quarterfinals, Claremore takes on Tulsa East Central, while Catoosa meets Tulsa Kelley.

Oologah defeated Poteau, 4-1, and moves on to a Friday match against Tulsa Webster.

Girls

Claremore and Sequoyah posted shutout victories, and Oologah won by a 2-1 count.

At Claremore, the No. 2-ranked Lady Zebras got five goals from five different players and handled Catoosa, 5-0.

Claremore goals were scored by: Tara Garrett (assist from Paige Graves),

Tiffany Roberts (from Graves), Demi Mullin (from Brooke Bell), Brittany McDonald (from Joanna Petty) and Claire Detter (from Kailey Pattay).

Claremore Sequoyah’s Amanda Wallace scored once in each half and the Lady Eagles stopped Verdigris, 2-0.

Johnna Weast and Megen Richardson assisted on both goals.

The win pushes Sequoyah into a Friday quarterfinal match against Metro Christian of Tulsa. Sequoyah won a regular-season match with Metro, 4-0.

That was a game played over a period of a couple of days, when lightning and foul weather interrupted the match and delayed its completion.
