OWASSO, Okla. – As the world of golf gathers together in Orlando during the 2019 PGA Merchandise Show, Folds of Honor reveals its fundraising total, $7,077,260, from the 2018 Patriot Golf Day campaign. The money raised through Patriot Golf Day will fund educational scholarships for the spouses and children of fallen or disabled military members. The nationwide event continues to be the primary source of revenue for Folds of Honor and has now raised $54 million for the organization since 2007.
“The golf industry has made a positive impact on thousands of military families across the United States, and we can’t thank the community enough for its continuous support of our mission,” said Major Dan Rooney, PGA professional, CEO and founder of Folds of Honor. “I am proud to stand with my fellow PGA Professionals and to continue showing the world the creative ways people are using the game of golf to give back to those serving our country.”
Patriot Golf Day is jointly supported by the PGA of America and the United States Golf Association (USGA). Over the last 11 years, golfers nationwide have been instrumental in raising donations through Patriot Golf Day events, resulting in nearly 20,000 scholarships to benefit the Folds of Honor mission in all 50 states and 41 PGA Sections.
Patriot Golf Day began in 2007 as a fundraising initiative over Labor Day weekend, and it has since evolved into a year-long annual event. Through Patriot Golf Day campaigns, golfers are asked to add an extra dollar to their green fees to fund Folds of Honor. Private clubs, daily-fee courses, individual golfers and PGA Professionals are all encouraged to host Patriot Golf Day events throughout the year, at a time that stimulates the highest participation. The campaign is led by Golf Legend Jack Nicklaus, who serves as The Honorary Chair of the event.
“The PGA Merchandise Show is a special time for us to get together each year and show our appreciation to those who support Patriot Golf Day,” said Rooney. “2018 was our biggest year yet, and we plan to keep building momentum and supporting even more military families in 2019.”
Golf properties across the country can get involved in Patriot Golf Day by registering at patriotgolfday.org. Non-golfers can also participate by donating to the mission at FoldsofHonor.org/patriotgolfday/donate.
