TUCSON, Ariz. – Rogers State's baseball team received votes in the 2018 Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division II Preseason National Poll as announced by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
The Hillcats return their starting pitcher rotation from a team that went 31-19 in the 2017 season, their first 30-win season since 2013. RSU has posted back-to-back winning seasons, and the program has increased its win total each season under head coach Chris Klimas. The returning pitching staff combined to tally 25 wins in 2017. Returning starter Spencer Bivens led the staff with an 8-4 record, and Tim Luce posted six wins with a 3.47 earned run average during the 2017 campaign. RSU brings back five Hillcat starters in the field from 2017 with All-Heartland Conference outfielder Bradley Degnan returning after hitting .302 with eight home runs and 42 RBI in 2017.
Delta State topped the poll with Tampa in second. St. Thomas Aquinas, Colorado Mesa and West Chester completed the top five.
From the Heartland Conference, 2017 Heartland Conference champion Lubbock Christian and UA Fort Smith appeared in the poll with St Edward's and St. Mary's also receiving votes.
The Hillcats start the season on Feb. 2 at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader against Randall at the Diamond Sports Complex. RSU and RU finish the four-game series with another doubleheader on Feb. 3. Coverage will be available on the Hillcat Network at www.rsuhillcats.com/live.
