The Rogers State baseball team won its eighth straight game on Tuesday afternoon as the Hillcats defeated Northeastern State (Okla.) ,7-2, at ONEOK Field in Tulsa.
A five-run second inning keyed the win as the Cats improved to 20-2 in non-conference action on the year. The Hillcats blasted a pair of home runs and Cade McKewon went 3-for-4 on the day.
After a scoreless first, RSU got things going in the second. Cody Campbell led off the inning and reached first after being hit by a pitch. Cade McKewon singled up the middle and Keith Poverud reached on an error to load the bases. Bargas followed and hit the ball right back to the pitcher who tried to turn the double play but threw the ball into the outfield when trying to throw to second and two runs scored. Eric Baker drove in a pair of runs with a double down the left field line. Hector Rivera hit a double and scored on an error to cap of the five-run inning.
In the fourth, the Riverhawks strung together back-to-back one-out hits to put runners on the corners. They dented the scoreboard with a double steal attempt. Mike Stone took off for second base and was thrown out by RSU catcher Lance Rymel, however, it allowed Trent Wilkins to score from third.
RSU earned the run back in the bottom of the fifth with a solo shot over the left field fence by Cody Campbell.
NSU matched the homer in the top of the sixth with a solo shot by Wilkins. Rymel rounded out the scoring with his third round trip of the season as he belted a solo homer over the left field fence in the bottom half of the inning.
Faust (7-2) registered the win on the mound as he tossed six innings and allowed two runs on seven hits, two walks and two strikeouts. Senior Tyler Garner tossed two scoreless innings and allowed one hit. Zack Williams closed out the scoreless ninth with two strikeouts.
TJ Foster was tagged with the loss for NSU as he lasted just one and a third innings and allowed four unearned runs on one hit with one strikeout.
Wilkins led the Riverhawks as he went 3-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored.
Rogers State (40-12) returns to action on Thursday as the Hillcats host the University of Central Oklahoma at Hillcat Complex. The non-conference affair is slate for 6 p.m. and is the final regular season game for RSU.
