The Rogers State Hillcats, who closed out their regular season on Saturday with a doubleheader sweep, open the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament today in Plainview, Texas.

The Hillcats routed Oklahoma Christian, 12-2 and 17-2, and earned the fourth seed in the conference tournament. With a 34-14 record overall, and a 19-11 record in the SAC, the Hillcats play fifth-seeded Oklahoma Baptist at 4 p.m. today. The Hillcats took two of three games from OBU in the regular season.

Lubbock Christian is the top-seeded team, followed by Oklahoma City and Wayland Baptist.

The Hillcats pounded out 30 hits and scored 29 runs Saturday to rout Oklahoma Christian in Edmond on the final day of the regular season.

First game

Shortstop Blake Kelley hit two home runs and established a school record with 13 for the season. He drove in five runs.

Zach Hamby contributed three hits to the Hillcats’ 15-hit onslaught, and had three RBIs.

Sam Cornell and reliever Brett Trzcinski combined to hold the Eagles to four hits over the six-inning affair. Cornell struck out six before yielding to Trzcinski for the sixth.

Kelley hit a two-run homer in the first and another two-run homer in the fifth.

Second game

Travis Harold hit a grand slam in the third inning to highlight a 10-run inning.

As in the opener, the Hillcats rang up 15 hits, and put this game out of reach by the fifth inning.

Brandon Denton and Tyler Henderson each drove in three runs. Henderson was the lone Hillcat with three hits.

Tyler Whitaker (6-2) picked up his 10th career win at RSU by pitching three scoreless innings.

Rogers State shortstop Blake Kelley was named the Sooner Athletic Conference player of the week Monday for the second time this month.

The Oolagah product led the Hillcats to a 5-1 week and a sweep over Oklahoma Christian with a .529 (9-for-17) batting average and four home runs. Kelley had 11 RBIs and 12 runs scored on the week.

Kelley set an RSU single-season record for home runs with 13. He hit .390 with a .738 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage while starting all 48 games.
