An early lead helped Verdigris remain undefeated in summer league play.
The Cardinals scored three runs in the opening two innings on the way to a 6-1 victory over Lincoln Christian at home on Monday evening.
Verdigris now sports a 6-0 record with two games remaining on the schedule.
The Cardinals host Salina at 5 p.m. on Thursday before closing out the short season on the road against Jay at 5 p.m. on Monday.
Toby Willis and Sloan Roller led Verdigris at the plate with two hits apiece. Willis also tallied an RBI, which came on a fly-ball double to leftfield, scoring Brent Olson for the final run of the game.
Verdigris actually experienced a deficit for the first time during the summer when Cooper Lancaster scored on an RBI groundout from Alex Newell in the first inning, but that advantage didn’t last long for the Bulldogs.
Jackson Thies took care of business the rest of the way for the Cardinals, pitching a full seven innings.
Thies struck out seven batters while allowing four hits, one walk and the lone run.
Willis scored on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the first to even the score, and Roller gave Verdigris the lead for good shortly after when he scored on a wild pitch.
Tye Haddock increased the lead to 3-1 in the second with a line-drive double to rightfield, scoring Ausytn Willis.
Neither team scored in the third or fourth, but Jax broke the drought by driving in Roller with a single to leftfield.
Olson doubled to rightfield in the sixth to score Ausytn Willis, and Toby Willis brought him home with a double of his own.
Verdigris finished with seven hits, besting Lincoln Christian by three.
