HERAKLION, Greece – Oklahoma State guard Isaac Likekele stuffed the stat sheet to help USA Basketball take down Russia, 95-80, in the quarterfinals of the FIBA U19 World Cup.
The sophomore posted five points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals in 21:34 of floor time, and was key in the American’s transition game.
USA (5-0) will now face a rematch with Lithuania (3-2) in the semifinals at 10 a.m. Saturday. Likekele posted 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting in the USA’s 102-84 victory over Lithuania in group play on June 30.
On Friday, the Americans overcame a tough-shooting first quarter in the victory. The USA shot just 25 percent from the floor in the opening frame, but Likekele led all players with five rebounds and two steals in the quarter.
That’s when the USA opened things up with its potent transition game. The Americans posted a 44-18 edge in fast-break points on the day, including an acrobatic steal and outlet pass from Likekele helped the USA open up a 45-17 lead midway through the second quarter.
Reginald Perry led the USA with 28 points on 10-of-15 shooting and eight rebounds.
Saturday’s semifinals, as well as Sunday’s final of the FIBA U19 World Cup can be seen on ESPN+.
