It was another special day for Claremore’s top runners.
Laynie Nichols won the 5K race (3.1 miles) in 19 minutes, 12 seconds, while Jack Vincent came in second in the boys race in 15:58 at the Carl Albert Cross Country Invitational in Midwest City on Tuesday.
Nichols outpaced the field of 97 other runners, leading the Lady Zebras to a 10th-place finish of 14 teams with 226 points.
Piedmont won the team title with 71 points.
Also earning points for the Claremore girls were Kate Bustamante (43rd, 22:18), Erin Kuykendall (45th, 22:25), Ainsley Hendrickson (65th, 23:33) and Hailey Burden (72nd, 23:50).
The boys finished seventh of 16 teams with 163 points. Piedmont sat atop the team standings with 39 points.
Vincent’s second-place finish bested 118 other runners. Christian Arenivar of Santa Fe South won the race with a time of 15:39.
Tyler Douthitt was next Zebra to cross the finish line after Vincent, clocking in at 17:46 for a 27-place finish.
Michael McMorris (38th, 18:03), Blake Phillippi (46th, 18:24) and Talon Woody (50th, 18:29) earned points for the team as well.
The Zebra runners return to action in the Metro Lakes Conference meet at RSU-Pryor on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
