TULSA — Brooks Sherl had himself quite a game.
The sophomore went 4- for-4 at the plate with 2 RBIs, leading Claremore to a 10-8 win over Booker T. Washington on Tuesday in a game that featured 29 hits.
Both of Sherl’s RBIs came in the second inning when he singled a groundball to right field, scoring Noah Smallwood and Matt Wofford to give the Zebras a 4-0 advantage.
The Hornets wouldn’t go away, though, scoring six runs in the third inning alone to take a two-run lead.
The teams went scoreless in the next three innings, but Claremore broke the rut with a six-run frame of its own, tallying seven of its 19 runs in the seventh.
Sherl managed two singles during that time, while Cooper Dotson, Brady Priess, Matt Wofford and Jake Gilmore each blasted singles as well. Trevor Janzen smacked a double to right- field, scoring Sherl in the process.
BTW tacked on two more runs in the bottom half, but it wasn’t enough to make the difference.
Gilmore finished with three hits, while Smallwood, Tristin Hampton, Dotson, Priess and Wofford each had two.
Wofford recorded the win on the mound for Claremore, striking out one while allowing two hits.
The Zebras (9-7, 5-2 in District 5A-3) return to action on Wednesday afternoon at Nathan Hale in a game that was rescheduled from earlier this season due to a rainstorm. Claremore won the first game of the series, 19-4, on March 7.
