Claremore now heads south to play in the McAlester Shootout Thursday and Friday

CLAREMORE — It was another early mugging for Claremore, as they jumped on visiting Skiatook early for the second day in a row, and swept the Bulldogs with a 4-2 win Tuesday evening at Legion Park.

On Monday at Skiatook, the Zebras scored five runs in the first three innings for a 5-1 win. Tuesday, it was a three-spot in the first that did the trick.

Skiatook pitcher Josh Truax had a hard time finding the plate in his five innings of work. He walked six, three of those in the fatal first inning. A pair of bases-loaded walks made it 2-0, and a sacrifice fly by Trevor Janzen drove in another run as the Zebras were in early control.

Claremore loaded the bases again in the third, but couldn't push any more runs across, but it didn't matter.

The only runs Skiatook could get were in the fourth off two singles, an RBI-grounder and an error.

But Taylor Davis shut the Bulldogs down for the most part. He allowed just those two runs on only four hits. He struck out seven for the win on Senior Night.

Leading 3-2 in the sixth, the Zebras got Davis an insurance run. Janzen singled to lead off the inning. Brady Priess walked and Brandon Ulhorn hit a two-out single to score Priess for a 4-2 lead.

Davis retired the side in the seventh.

Matt Sanchez was 2-for-3 for Skiatook.

Wood, Ulhorn, Janzen and Jackson Martin all singled.

Claremore is now 15-8 overall and 5-4 in District 5A-3, sitting in fifth place behind Coweta.

Claremore will compete at the McAlester Shootout, playing two games Thursday beginning at 5:30 p.m, and then two more games on Friday beginning at 10 a.m. The Zebras will then host Pryor at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25 before ending the regular season by hosting Tulsa Memorial in a doubleheader at 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 27.
