Claremore is on a roll.
The Zebras extended their winning streak to four games on Thursday evening, defeating Will Rogers, 11-0, in a non-district matchup at American Legion Park. It was Claremore’s second-straight shutout victory, having dismantled Nathan Hall, 13-0, on Wednesday.
Claremore went right to work on the Ropers, opening the bottom of the first with a trio of singles from freshman Noah Smallwood, sophomore Brooks Sherl and senior Tristin Hampton. The latter drove in the underclassmen with his line drive to centerfield.
Hampton added to the lead shortly on a bases-loaded walk after Cooper Dotson was hit by a pitch. Matt Wofford capped off the early scoring spree on another bases-loaded walk, giving the Zebras a 4-0 lead.
Claremore wasn’t done there, though.
After a Smallwood walk and a Sherl double, Hampton tallied a 2-RBI double to bring both home. Wofford and Gettinger followed up with a pair of singles, the latter of which scored Hampton to make it 7-0 after two.
The onslaught continued in the third.
Courtesy of some Will Rogers mistakes, Smallwood (walk), Sherl (hit by pitch) and Hampton (error) quickly loaded the bases, and Wofford notched a 2-RBI single for the trouble.
A 2-RBI double from Brady Priess put the score at 11-0 for the game’s final runs.
In all, the Zebras accounted for nine hits, three of which were doubles. Hampton, Wofford and Sherl combined for six hits and six RBIs.
Carson Young was credited with the victory for Claremore, striking out two while allowing two hits and a walk. Easton Phillips took over on the mound after three innings and threw 26 pitches, striking out one with no hits.
